Kuantan, the capital of Pahang, the largest state in the Malay Peninsula, was the home for the recent Malaysian Paralympic Games, a multi-sport event organised on a biennial basis.
Staged from Monday 10th to Thursday 13th December 2012, the table tennis events were organised in co-operation with the Table Tennis Association of Malaysia and the Malaysian Paralympic Council.
Chan Foong Keong was the Technical Advisor, Christina Chee the Technical Delegate.
Technical Knowledge
The event was first held in 1982 with table tennis making its debut in 2000 but not under the umbrella of Table Tennis Association Malaysia.
It was not until 2004 that the Table Tennis Association of Malaysia assisted the Malaysian Paralympic Council with technical knowledge to improve the organisation and presentation of the competition. The Malaysian Paralympic Council is recognized by the government as a sole national sports body for the disabled.
Integration Pursued
In 2007, when Para Table Tennis came under the auspices of the International Table Tennis Federation, the Table Tennis Association of Malaysia made a determined effort to promote integration and develop Para Table Tennis in every region of the country.
