The morning session of play on Friday 14th December 2012 at the Volkswagen World Junior Champi**hips in Hyderabad had been a disappointment for Italy Leonardo Mutti.

He was beaten by Poland Patryk Zatowka in a full distance seven games duel (4-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-7, 9-11, 11-5, 11-4).

It was a somewhat of a surprise result; Patryk Zatowka currently stands at no.73 on the Under 18 Boys?World Rankings, Leonardo Mutti is at no.55.

However, in the afternoon session, it was much better news for Leonardo Mutti.

    Doubles Success
Partnering compatriot, Alessandro Baciocchi, after posting a first round win over the Egyptian duo of Omar Bedair and Shady Magdy, the duo accounted for the top seeded French partnership of Tristan Flore and Simon Gauzy (11-9, 11-9, 3-11, 11-8) to book their place in the quarter-finals.

e played freely in the first two games? reflected Leonardo Mutti. ristan and Simon know me well, they made changes and won the third game; in the fourth game sometimes we pushed long into their backhands and on other time short.?
The variation worked, the Italians prevailed.

    Further Upset
An upset in the second round of the Boys?Doubles event and at the same stage there was a second.

The Korean partnership of Jang Woojin and Lim Jonghoon hit form; they accounted for the third seeded Japanese pairing of Asuka Machi and Masaki Yoshida (8-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-9, 11-1).

    Seeds Progress
Otherwise, matters went very much as per status, as matters progressed to the quarter-final stage of the Boys?Doubles event.

Japan Yuto Muramatsu and Asuka Sakai, the second seeds, beat the Korean partnership of Choi Deokhwa and Kim Minhyeok (11-8, 11-7, 11-7); whilst China Li Gaoyuan and Xu Chenhao, the no.4 seeds, ended the hopes of Hong Kong Chi Chung Hei and Li Hon Ming (11-7, 11-7, 11-5).

    Chinese Duos Outstanding
Meanwhile, in the Girls?Doubles event, there were no great problems for the highly seeded outfits.

China Gu Yuting and Zhu Yuling, the no.1 seeds, booked their place in the quarter-finals courtesy of a straight games win over Alice Barendregt and Britt Eerland of the Netherlands (11-6, 11-4, 11-5); whilst colleagues, Gu Ruochen and Liu Gaoyang immediately followed suit.

They accounted for Chinese Taipei Huang Hsin and Huang Yu-Wen (11-9, 11-1, 11-5).

    Similar Style
Similarly, there were no great travails for the third and fourth seeded partnerships.

Japan Miyu Maeda and Ayuka Tanioka, the no.3 seeds, beat Romania Bernadett Balint and Roxana Istrate (11-4, 11-8, 11-5); whilst the latter colleagues, Irina Ciobanu and Bernadette Szocs, the no.4 seeds, ended the hopes of Croatia Ida Jazbec and Ivana Tubikanec (11-9, 11-6, 11-1).

Success for the seeds and at the end of the day there was success for Leonardo Mutti after a disappointing start.

Spare a Thought for Lam Siu Hang
However, spare a thought for Hong Kong Lam Siu Hang.

In the morning session of play he was beaten in the first round of the Boys?Singles event by Enzo Angles of France (11-9, 11-5, 11-5, 11-7); then in the afternoon partnering Hung Ka Tak he suffered defeat in the doubles. They were beaten by the Brazilian partnership of Vitor Ishiy and Eric Jouti (11-6, 11-13, 13-11, 11-4).

    All on his 16th birthday!
