Responding to Pressure, Masaki Yoshida Stars Once Again in Hyderabad

12/11/2012        Volkswagen 2012 World Junior Table Tennis Champi**hips
Cometh the hour cometh the hero; for Japan cometh Masaki Yoshida.
He was the man to steer Japan to victory in their quarter-final Boys?Team contest against Chinese Taipei early on the afternoon of Tuesday 11th December 2012 at the Volkswagen World Junior Champi**hips in Hyderabad.
The 18 year old, who in 2011 won the Junior Boys?Singles title on the ITTF Junior Circuit in Sweden, was the man under pressure. He faced Lee Chia-Sheng with the score in the contest level at two matches apiece.
Defeat and it meant an early exit for the top seeds; the trio from Chinese Taipei was on the brink of a sensation.
    Close Three Games Duel
Masaki Yoshida rose to the occasion to beat Lee Chia-Sheng in three straight games but it was a hard fought three straight games and that score line did not reflect the contribution Lee Chia-Sheng made to a thrilling duel. Masaki Yoshida won 12-10, 19-17, 11-6.
Unquestionably, Masaki Yoshida was the man of the match; earlier in the proceedings he had beaten Hung Tzu-Hsiang in three straight games (11-7, 12-10, 11-6).
    Excelled Again
Two wins from Masaki Yoshida who once again excelled in what must be his favourite city; in 2011 he won the Boys?Singles title at the ITTF Global Junior Circuit Finals when they were staged in Hyderabad.
    One Win for Yuto Muramatsu
The one remaining win for Japan came from Yuto Muramatsu in the fourth contest of proceedings; he beat the luckless Hung Tzu-Hsiang in a full distance five games duel (7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 11-3) to keep Japanese hopes alive.
    Wins for Chinese Taipei
Meanwhile, for Chinese Taipei, the wins came from Lee Chia-Sheng over Yuto Muramatsu in the first match of the contest (11-6, 11-9, 5-11, 11-7) and from Liao Cheng-Ting in opposition to Asuka Sakai in the third match of the contest (11-6, 10-12, 9-11, 11-8, 11-6).
    Hong Kong Dreams End
Success for Japan and it was success for the top four seeds.
Korea, the no.2 seeds, posted a three-nil win over Hong Kong, the no.9 seeds and the only team required to compete in the first stage of proceedings to secure a last eight place.
Jang Woojin beat Chiu Chung Hei (11-9, 8-11, 11-7, 11-7), Choi Deokhwa overcame Li Hon Ming (11-5, 11-8, 11-8) with Kim Minhyeok bringing proceedings to a conclusion with a close five games win over Hung Ka Tak (11-5, 11-7, 8-11, 7-11, 11-3).
    Frenchmen in Form
A three-nil success for Korea and it was the same for China, the no.3 seeds and for France, the no.4 seeds.
France beat Poland with Simon Gauzy accounting for Konrad Kulpa (11-8, 8-11, 11-6, 11-5), Tristan Flore defeating Jakub Dyas (9-11, 11-4, 11-7, 11-8) and Antoine Hachard overcoming Michal Bankosz (9-11, 14-12, 11-2, 11-5).
    Chinese Show No Charity
Success for France in a most impressive manner and even more impressive from China with just one individual game being surrendered; that being in the third match with Fan Shengpeng needing four games to beat Qiu Lang (11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 11-4).
Earlier Fan Zhendong had beaten Benedikt Duda (11-6, 11-6, 11-4) and Lin Gaoyuan had overcome Frederick Jost (11-9, 11-6, 11-9).
    Semi-Finals
At the semi-final stage, Japan meets Korea; China confronts France.
